Inder Pal Singh Sethi

Inder Pal Singh Sethi has officially assumed the role of Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) as of January 1, 2025, succeeding Rajesh Gera. Gera, who had been at the helm since May 31, 2022, leaves behind a distinguished legacy marked by his over three decades of service. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to various critical initiatives, including the Video Conferencing Division, Satellite Network Division, Aadhaar Authentication Division, Labour and Employment Informatics Division, and the National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW) Project. His leadership played a crucial role in reinforcing NIC’s reputation as the backbone of India’s e-Governance infrastructure.

Sethi, who brings with him a vision for technological advancement, takes charge of an institution that has been pivotal in driving ICT and e-Governance solutions since its founding in 1976 under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). As the new Director General, he is set to oversee several strategic initiatives, such as enhancing e-Governance solutions by developing robust software for government departments and maintaining critical ICT infrastructure, including NICNET, the National Knowledge Network (NKN), data centers, and video conferencing services.

In line with the government’s Digital India agenda, Sethi will focus on supporting digital transformation efforts by leveraging NIC’s technical expertise and expanding its Centre of Excellence for Data Analytics. Additionally, he is expected to foster innovation by exploring emerging technologies, ensuring that NIC remains at the forefront of India’s digital revolution.
