AFMS and IIT Hyderabad Sign MoU for Medical Research and Training

In a landmark agreement, the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on innovative research and training initiatives. The MoU was formalized by Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of AFMS, and Prof B S Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad.

The partnership aims to drive advancements in medical technology and address health challenges unique to military personnel operating in diverse environments. IIT Hyderabad’s expertise in Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, and Bioinformatics will play a crucial role in developing new medical devices and solutions tailored for the Armed Forces.

Key collaboration areas include the development of drone-based patient transport systems, telemedicine innovations, the integration of Artificial Intelligence in medical applications, and advancements in nanotechnology. The MoU also paves the way for student exchange programs, short-term undergraduate courses, and faculty exchanges.

Lt Gen Daljit Singh highlighted the AFMS’s dedication to providing top-notch medical care to soldiers in both field and hospital settings. He noted that the collaboration with IIT Hyderabad, a leader in technological innovation, represents a significant advancement in research and training efforts, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for soldiers and their families.

Prof B S Murty reaffirmed IIT Hyderabad’s commitment to addressing the specific needs of the Armed Forces, ensuring timely and effective solutions to their medical challenges.
