Northern Coalfields Limited appoints B. Sairam as New Chairman and Managing Director

New Delhi: B. Sairam has taken over as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited, the main subsidiary of Coal India Limited located in Singrauli. He officially assumed his new role on Wednesday. With 33 years of dedicated service in the coal sector, Sairam brings a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Graduating as a mining engineer from NIT Raipur, Sairam has worked across various aspects of the coal industry, including mine operations, planning, logistics, and regulatory affairs. His pursuit of excellence and innovation is evident in his academic endeavors as well. He completed a rigorous 15-month full-time residential PGDM in Energy Management at NTPC School of Business Delhi, which included a transformative 15-day immersion program at Nanyang Business School, Singapore, broadening his understanding of global energy dynamics.

Before his appointment as CMD of NCL, Sairam served as Director (Technical) at Central Coalfields Limited in Ranchi. In this role, he played key roles in enhancing the company’s organic growth, developing coal logistics such as tripling the Tori-Shivpur Line to increase coal dispatch to upcountry power consumers, initiating First Mile Connectivity projects like North Urimiri CHP-Silo, facilitating Forest & Environment Clearance, and overseeing the development of greenfield and brownfield mines.
