Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) outreach session on Thursday, where discussions focused on energy security, supply chain resilience, and critical minerals. Representing India, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of mitigating dependence on limited sources, strengthening predictability, and building long-term resilience in global supply chains — key priorities for emerging economies navigating today’s volatile energy and technology landscape.

In his address, Jaishankar underscored India’s efforts to balance energy transition goals with developmental imperatives, noting that reliable access to energy and critical minerals is essential for sustainable growth. He also called for diversified and transparent supply chains to prevent monopolistic dependencies, particularly in the sourcing of materials critical for clean technologies and advanced manufacturing.

The outreach session, attended by ministers and representatives from major economies and partner countries, comes at a time of renewed global focus on securing mineral resources vital for green technologies such as electric vehicles and renewable energy storage. India’s participation reflects its growing role in shaping global energy and strategic supply chain dialogues, as it works to position itself as both a responsible consumer and a reliable production hub.

Jaishankar also reaffirmed India’s commitment to international cooperation in advancing clean energy technologies while safeguarding the interests of developing nations. He stressed that equitable access to resources and technology must underpin global energy transition efforts.

The minister’s intervention was well-received, reinforcing India’s reputation as a pragmatic and solution-oriented voice on global economic and sustainability issues. His remarks echoed New Delhi’s consistent stance that strategic autonomy and global interdependence must coexist for a stable, inclusive future.
