McAfee Unveils World’s First AI-Powered Deepfake Detector
McAfee has introduced the McAfee Deepfake Detector in India, further expanding its suite of AI-powered cybersecurity solutions. This innovative tool is designed to counter the growing prevalence of deepfake videos and AI-driven scams, which have surged across social media and online platforms, leaving individuals vulnerable to misinformation and fraud.
Recent research from McAfee reveals that the average Indian encounters 4.7 deepfake videos daily, with 66% of respondents reporting that they or someone they know fell victim to such scams in the past year. Moreover, nearly 44% of those targeted by online scams were scammed again within 12 months, underscoring the sophistication and frequency of these threats.
Pratim Mukherjee, Senior Director of Engineering at McAfee, emphasized the importance of empowering individuals with advanced detection tools. “While not all AI-generated content is malicious, the ability to discern between real and fake videos enables consumers to make informed decisions confidently,” Mukherjee stated.
The McAfee® Deepfake Detector, now available on select Copilot+ PCs in India, offers real-time alerts for AI-altered audio in videos, eliminating the need for manual uploads. The technology relies on on-device processing, ensuring user privacy by keeping data off the cloud. The tool operates seamlessly in the background, allowing users to engage in activities like gaming and browsing without performance disruptions.
By leveraging on-device neural processing units (NPUs), the Deepfake Detector enhances speed, improves battery efficiency, and ensures data privacy. McAfee assures users that no audio data is recorded or collected, and settings can be customized for optimal control.
To complement the Deepfake Detector, McAfee has launched the McAfee Smart AI™ Hub, an online platform offering resources and tools to help users identify and avoid AI scams. The Hub also allows consumers to submit suspicious videos for analysis, contributing to a broader understanding of AI-generated threats.
The McAfee Deepfake Detector is available in India on select Copilot+ PCs at Rs. 499 for the standalone version, while McAfee+ with the detector is priced at Rs. 2,398.
As the digital landscape evolves, McAfee aims to equip users with cutting-edge AI-driven tools to stay ahead of emerging cyber threats, ensuring a safer online environment for everyone.
