Kothakota Srinivas Reddy takes charge as Hyderabad Police Commissioner

Hyderabad: Kothakota Srinivas Reddy, IPS, took charge as Hyderabad Commissioner of Police in the Hyderabad Commissionerate at Jubilee Hills on Wednesday. While speaking to media, KS Reddy thanked Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and discussed the plan of action and the police approach in Hyderabad henceforth.

 

“Basic policing has to be improved in focus areas of city police. Basic and transparent policing has to be brought to another level in the city,” said KS Reddy. He further ensured that problems related to traffic will be addressed to bring improvement to the situation. “But most importantly, there will be no place for drugs in the city, which is also the order of the Chief Minister. So, we will be taking very tough measures to control the drug situation,” he said. “We will also coordinate with Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissioners to move ahead. We will proceed with our goal of making it a drug-free city,” he added.

 

KS Reddy further said that meetings will be arranged with film personalities to work towards creating awareness against the drug menace. Earlier on Monday, CM Revanth Reddy ordered the officials to crack the whip on the supply and abuse of narcotics in the state.

 

The CM held a review meeting on the narcotic drug menace at the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the Telangana Chief Minister instructed the officials to take stringent action against the consumption and sale of drugs in the state. He further said that a full-time Director will be appointed to the existing Telangana State Anti-Narcotic Bureau (TSNAB) to strengthen the department. 

 

The CM asked the officials to provide adequate funds, resources and other logistic support to the department. The department should give utmost priority to the curb of narcotics abuse and its sale. Reddy said that the TSNAB should be strengthened on the lines of Greyhounds and Octopus in the state. He made it clear that Telangana should be promoted as a drug-free state in the country.

Automatic payment limit via UPI raised to Rs 1 lakh: RBI

Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday increased the limit for automatic payments through UPI to Rs 1 lakh per transaction from the existing Rs 15,000 for certain categories, including subscription to mutual funds. 

 

As of now, relaxation in Additional Factor of Authentication (AFA) is permitted while processing e-mandates/standing instructions on cards, prepaid payment instruments and UPI (Unified Payments Interface), for subsequent recurring transactions with values up to Rs 15,000.

 

“It has been decided to increase the limit from Rs 15,000 to Rs 1, 00,000 per transaction for subscription to mutual funds, payment of insurance premiums, and credit card bill payments,” the central bank said in a circular on “processing of e-mandates for recurring transactions”.

 

UPI has emerged as a preferred mode of payment for a large section of the population with over 11.23 billion transactions recorded in November. An announcement in this regard was made by Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das, while unveiling the December bi-monthly monetary policy last week.

Lakshadweep schools to shift to CBSE English medium

Kavaratti: The Lakshadweep administration has announced a major shift in its education system by deciding to transform all schools under the Department of Education in the union territory from Malayalam to CBSE English medium.

 

The Director of Education in the union territory issued an order in this regard on December 12.

 

“With the aim of elevating the standards of education and aligning with the dynamic educational landscape, the Department of Education, union territory of Lakshadweep, has resolved to transition SCERT Kerala Malayalam medium classes to CBSE English medium,” the order said.

Mohan Yadav Sworn in as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Mohan Yadav, the BJP legislature party leader and MLA from Ujjain South, was sworn in as the new chief minister of Madhya Pradesh here on Wednesday.

 

The 58-year-old leader was administered the oath of office by Governor Mangubhai Patel at the Lal Parade Ground in state capital Bhopal.

 

BJP legislators Jagdish Devda and Rajendra Shukla were sworn in as the deputy chief ministers by the governor.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda and Yadav’s predecessor Shivraj Singh Chouhan were present at the event.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia were also present on the occasion.

One DIG, four SPs appointed in CBI by Centre

New Delhi: Jitendra Singh Meena from the 2007 batch Indian Police Service officer of Chhattisgarh cadre has been appointed as the Deputy Inspector General in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of five years, according to an official order.

 

Apart from Meena, four other officers have been appointed as Superintendent of Police in CBI.

Among the four new appointments include IPS officers Vinayak Varma (Madhya Pradesh cadre); Achal Tyagi (Gujarat Cadre), and Praveen Kumar (Gujarat Cadre) as CBI SPs.

According to the Personnel Ministry order, these appointments are for a duration of five years.

Additionally, Gaurav Mittal, Indian Revenue Service officer is also appointed as the CBI SP for a tenure of four years.

PM Modi to Inaugurate GPAI Summit Today

Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), is an international and diverse body which was first established in June 2020 with 15 member countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union

 

 New Delhi: Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India will host the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 5 PM today in New Delhi. India will be seen negotiating with the 28 other member countries to arrive at an agreement on a declaration document on the proper use of AI, the guardrails for the technology and how it can be democratized during this event.

 

The three days event will start on 12th December 12, 2023 and will end respectively on 14th December 2023 and the theme for the event will be “Advancing Responsible AI in Public-Sector Applications.”

GPAI Summit will include key governing body meetings and various side events presenting the AI progress and engaging in discussions. Industry panel discussions, workshops, Game changer awards for start-ups, research symposium, hackathons and the Global AI Expo are the side events that will be included.

 

The event aims to see 20+ sessions, more than 100 speakers and around 120 experts. Advancement of Artificial Intelligence technologies presents significant opportunities and unique challenges with AI deployment in the public sector. To promote collaboration and research in responsible AI, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India in collaboration with the Centre for Responsible AI, IIT Madras is organizing a Research Symposium as part of the Annual GPAI Summit.

 

The Symposium aims to provide a platform for Indian and International academics and researchers to collaborate with other AI experts and present actionable research on Responsible AI in front of a global audience.

 

The Symposium will consist of two tracks, one with invited expert speakers, and the other, conference shortlist track to ensure highest quality of generated outputs and discussions. Both tracks include distinguished scholars and practitioners from engineering and public policy fields from institutions like New York University, Oxford University, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Carnegie Mellon University and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, among others.
