New Delhi: Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India will host the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 5 PM today in New Delhi. India will be seen negotiating with the 28 other member countries to arrive at an agreement on a declaration document on the proper use of AI, the guardrails for the technology and how it can be democratized during this event.
The three days event will start on 12th December 12, 2023 and will end respectively on 14th December 2023 and the theme for the event will be “Advancing Responsible AI in Public-Sector Applications.”

The summit serves as a platform that unites experts from fields including science, industry, civil society, international organizations, and national governments who share a common commitment. GPAI emphasizes to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical implementation of AI by endorsing cutting-edge research and applied endeavors in AI-related priorities.
GPAI Summit will include key governing body meetings and various side events presenting the AI progress and engaging in discussions. Industry panel discussions, workshops, Game changer awards for start-ups, research symposium, hackathons and the Global AI Expo are the side events that will be included.
The event aims to see 20+ sessions, more than 100 speakers and around 120 experts. It will showcase prominent speakers from around the globe which includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi; Ashwini Vaishnav, Union Cabinet Minister, Railways, Communications, Electronics & IT, Government of India ; Raajev Chandrashekhar, Minister of State, Electronics and Information Technology and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India; Yoichi Lida, Deputy Director-General, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan; Chintan Vaishnav, Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission, Niti Aayog; Manoj Ahuja, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Government of India, Neema Lugangira, Member of Parliament, Government of Tanzania, Dr. Mariagrazia Squicciar, Chief of Executive Office, Social and Human Sciences Sector, UNESCO; Vice President – Strategic Initiatives, Microsoft, and many more.
“The world’s thinking on AI is converging. People understand the potential, look to the benefits which can come, and understand the dangers and put certain guardrails. There is convergence on how AI should be treated going forward,” said Ashwini Vaishnav at the curtain raiser of the GPAI 2023 Summit on Monday.

Advancement of Artificial Intelligence technologies presents significant opportunities and unique challenges with AI deployment in the public sector. To promote collaboration and research in responsible AI, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India in collaboration with the Centre for Responsible AI, IIT Madras is organizing a Research Symposium as part of the Annual GPAI Summit.
The Symposium aims to provide a platform for Indian and International academics and researchers to collaborate with other AI experts and present actionable research on Responsible AI in front of a global audience.
The Symposium will consist of two tracks, one with invited expert speakers, and the other, conference shortlist track to ensure highest quality of generated outputs and discussions. Both tracks include distinguished scholars and practitioners from engineering and public policy fields from institutions like New York University, Oxford University, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Carnegie Mellon University and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, among others.
