Uber will now eat Uber eats

Transportation network company Uber has merged the web version of its food delivery application— Uber Eats  into the main application in select markets.

"We're rolling out a new way to order Eats directly in the Uber app on Android (we've already been experimenting on iOS)," Uber spokesperson told TechCrunch. "This cross-promotion gives riders who are new to Eats a seamless way to order a meal via a webview instead of opening up the App Store for download."

Uber seems to have added a rather clearly visible Eats button at the top right corner of its map for test markets. Clicking on that button summons Eats from within the application, allowing riders to order food without having to fire up the standalone Uber Eats application.

Clients on iOS and soon on Android will be able to catch a ride with Uber and furthermore request nourishment in-app straight to their doorway, making for a move which could bring new customers to its mobile-based taxi service. Uber quietly began rolling out a pilot of the merged app in late April.

“Really what we are looking to do is significantly increase the percentage of our MAPCs [monthly active platform consumers] that use both products [ride-hailing and Eats] and when we see customers using more than one product, their engagement with the platform more than doubles” Uber CEO Dara   Khosrowshahi concluded on the call. “So not only does engagement with Uber increase, but the engagement with our individual products increases as well, so it’s kind of a win, win, win,” he added.
