The Fastest Woman in India is A Lesbian

Sprinter Dutee Chand became the first Indian athlete to openly declare her sexuality. Chand revealed in 2019 that she is in a same-sex relationship with a woman from her home town Odisha.

“I have always supported the rights of those who want to be in a same-sex relationship. It is an individual choice,” she said in her confession.

Chand, 25  has won two silver medals in the 2018 Asian Games and is referred to as the fastest woman in India. Currently, she is training in Hyderabad and her main focus is the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

She was the first-ever Indian athlete to talk about her sexual preferences with PRIDE. After her open admission in 2019, about her relationship, social media came out in praise of her complimenting her on the bold and fearless steps she has taken.

Chand has paved the way for many by taking a stand for herself. She said she got the courage to come out after the historic Supreme Court ruling last year decriminalizing same-sex relationships.

One may fall in love anytime and with anyone. One does not decide that based on caste, religion or gender," Dutee said in her confession.

ObserveNow congratulates her for this bold decision and wishes her more strength and power. And wishes her a Happy Pride Month.
