F.R.I.E.N.D.S Reunion Is the Epic Closure Fans Deserved

The story of six friends, living their twenties in New York, dealing with life one issue at a time  -- ended up becoming a phenomenon. The Netflix-armed millennial generation discovered the series later and revived its fandom.

After years of fans requesting them to come together on screen again for a reunion, the iconic six lead cast members of F.R.I.E.N.D.S finally did hurdle up. Thursday was “D-Day” when millions of FRIENDS fans from around the world stopped everything else to watch their favorites -- David Schwimmer, Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt Le Blanc finally come together for this much-awaited reunion.

The special episode was an hour and a half long which many are calling the best 90 minutes of 2021. Even though fans did not get what they really wanted in terms of an episode that showed the life of the six lead characters 17 years later. But the makers did their best to satisfy the audiences with many surprises, emotional backstories of the lead cast, the stories behind their casting, discussing the BTS (Behind The Scenes) info.

While the cast recreated the iconic 100thEpisode of the show ‘ The one with the Embryos’ in which the boys win Monica and Rachel’s apartment in a bet. But this time David Schwimmer aka Ross asked the cast questions about the show. Which to some disappointment the lead cast had forgotten but the audiences obviously remembered.

The reunion was layered with surprise visits from iconic characters of the show like Janice, Richard, Mr and Mrs. Geller, Gunter and Mr. Heckles to name a few.

And a few celebrity interviews where David Beckham, Kit Harrington, Malala Yousoufzai tell the audiences their favorite episodes of the show.

The highest point of the reunion was Lady Gaga’s rendition of Smelly Cat with Lisa Kudrow. The Gaga zing just redefined the classic for millennial fans of the show.

Bytes from fans from around the world including India, Africa, France, Spain, South Korea and the UK – sharing tales of their connection to the series were also included in the episodes. People wanted to remind the creators and cast of the show that what they did, has made an impact on the lives of millions of people – who still come back home after a long hard day to FRIENDS on their television.

One of the most emotional moments of the show was when David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston aka Ross and Rachel confessed that the two had a very strong feeling of love and adoration for each other while filming the show. However, the two couldn’t do anything about it given the circumstances they found themselves in.  So they channeled that love for each other in Ross and Rachel which brought a degree of authenticity into their characters and which is why the duo became an iconic love story. Even though their love was incomplete it still was infinite.

The last segment of the show featured a fashion show with the most iconic looks recreated from the show. And just like how all good things come to an end, the epic series did and so did the reunion. But the makers did give us the closure we all have been looking for.

When asked why they ended the show or why they wouldn’t do another season of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Marta Kauffman said they made a show which was about that time in your life when your Friends are your family, and then comes a point where you make your own family again and can’t live like that anymore. We all have to grow up, evolve and move on at some point, and that is a life lesson our F.R.I.E.N.D.S taught us one last time before they made us smile and bid farewell.

PS- If you didn’t get Goosebumps while reading this or while watching the show, your are not a true fan.
