RED ALERT: Increase in domestic violence cases during lockdown

Amidst the battle against Covid-19, there has been a rise in the cases of domestic violence. The National Commission for Women, India received twice the no of cases in the first week of the lockdown than the complaints in the first week of March. An organization affiliated with Maharashtra, State Commission for Women receives 100 calls per day from women facing domestic violence. Calls to a national domestic abuse helpline rose by 49% in the UK.  This is taking a toll on the mental health of women as there is no going away from your abuser because of the lockdown. This is a red alert situation for the authorities.
